REFLECTIONS FROM PASTORAL CARE DIRECTOR KEITH KINCAID

“Every day we are surrounded by change. Everything around us is changing. As with the weather, some days are bright and sunny and other days are dark and cloudy. One of the greatest challenges in life is to adapt to the new reality of each day. Lord of all creation instill in us the gift of adapting and growing with each new day.”

SITUATION OVERVIEW

  • CMO Robert Peltier, M.D., reports that weekly numbers from the state show an improvement in both incidence and percent positivity. Incidence rate was 1,576 cases per 100,000 people 2 weeks ago, and last week we were in the 800s per 100,000 people. Unfortunately, the entire state of Louisiana is still considered red or high-risk, because those numbers are still high. It is clear we have either plateaued or started on a downward trend regarding hospitalizations, cases, etc. We do not know what the future will bring. Early reports show that the new omicron variant is a little more contagious but it doesn’t seem to be more virulent. There are no major changes from the variant that’s been out there. Overall, things are starting to improve and hopefully this will continue.

STAFFING, VOLUME & SUPPLIES

  • Chief Human Resources Officer Jeff Jarreau reports that we have returned 79 employees back to work since last week, leaving 37 out monitoring (6 RNs, 0 RTs and 0 Providers).
  • CNO Kirsten Riney reports that we are still down several nurses headed into tonight.
  • COVID Drive-Thru has tested 642 patients in the last 2 weeks. Today, hours of operation were reduced to 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 43 patients were seen. Tomorrow’s hours will remain 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
  • Clinics and Outpatient Diagnostics volume remain stable.
  • The Urgent Cares have experienced a decrease in volume when compared to early January.
