  • 573,903 COVID-19 positive cases (up 6,116 since Aug. 6)
  • 11,210 COVID-19 patient deaths (up 48 since Aug. 6)
  • 2,421 COVID-19 patients hospitalized (up 71 since Aug. 6)
  • 277 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (up 19 since Aug. 6)
  • Positivity rate for Tangipahoa Parish is 19.4%.
  • 90% of all COVID-19 cases are in unvaccinated individuals.
  • 84% of all COVID-19 patient deaths are unvaccinated individuals.
  • 90% of COVID-19 hospitalizations are for unvaccinated individuals.
NOHS Stats
  • NOMC:
    • 99 COVID-19 patients hospitalized (down 4 since Aug. 6)
    • 22 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (up 5 since Aug. 6)
    • 6 COVID-19 patient deaths since Aug. 6
  • NORH: 20 patients (1 COVID-19 positive); 2-3 possible admissions
  • Hood: 15 hospitalized (0 COVID-19 positive); 5 ER boarders awaiting acute care bed placement, 4 of whom are COVID-19 positive; 2 employees out monitoring
  • Tested 32,644 with 0 tests pending (up 370 since Aug. 6)
  • 5,012 positive test results for inpatients/outpatients combined (up 166 since Aug. 6)
  • 1,352 COVID-19 patients recovered (up 27 since Aug. 6)
Staffing and Volume
  • MICU 2 has 6 patients.
  • ER has 2 boarders.
  • We are on diversion for everything but trauma and stroke.
  • We have received confirmation that we will be getting additional support from a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services DMAT team (Disaster Medical Assistance Team) this week. You may see some new faces on the nursing units and in the hallways.
  • Staffing remains extremely tight, and all supplemental staffing contingency plans remain active.
  • ER Infusion for COVID-19 positive patients on Medicine Unit I continues from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Over the weekend, 55 infusions were performed.
  • Non-emergent elective surgeries at NOMC are suspended this week. Today, the Surgical Services schedule includes 4 surgeries at NOMC in the main OR, 18 at the Surgery Center, 2 Cath Lab cases and 3 Endoscopies.
  • Visitation guidelines that became effective July 22 remain in force. Note: Employees wishing to visit a family member while hospitalized must check-in at the front door and register. All visitation restrictions apply for the safety of the patients and staff.
  • Drive-Thru COVID-19 Testing by appointment is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. To schedule a test, go to covidtest.northoaks.org or call Patient Scheduling at (985) 230-7777. We have 37 drive-thru tests scheduled thus far for today.
  • The COVID-19 Screening Hotline is open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. seven days/week at (985) 230-CV19 [2819]. The team fielded 42 calls over the weekend.
  • Employee Wellness returned 9 employees back to work since Aug. 6. This leaves 63 out monitoring symptoms at home (10 RNs; 1 respiratory therapist).
  • Clinic volume is steady and reassigning staff to assist with North Oaks Urgent Care and COVID-19 Screening Hotline.
  • Supply levels are good. We have more than enough PPE.
Vaccinations
  • Our employee vaccination rate has substantially increased from 43% to 63.4%! If you have vaccine questions, reach out to Dr. Robert Peltier at ext. 7755 or peltierr@northoaks.org for evidence-based answers to assist you in making a decision that is right for you. He also is answering questions from the public sent to info@northoaks.org.
  • Vaccinations are available at North Oaks Urgent Care clinics in Hammond, Ponchatoula and Walker from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Sunday. Self-schedule an appointment at https://covidvaccine.northoaks.org or by calling (985) 230-SHOT [7468]. Over the weekend, the urgent cares gave a total of 290 first doses and 62 second doses. We are excited to see the community stepping up, protecting themselves and supporting our health care heroes through vaccination!
Infection Prevention
  • Infection Prevention reminds us to hold each other accountable for the following:
    • Pay attention to hand hygiene.
    • NO double masking.
    • Discard N95 mask after a single use.
    • Discard ear loop mask when soiled or when suspected contamination has occurred. Don a new mask as soon as possible.
    • NEVER put mask or other used PPE items down on work surfaces or on top of equipment.
