Staffing and Volume
  • MICU 2 remains open and has 5 patients.
  • ER has 6 boarders.
  • Staffing remains tight. Supplemental staffing contingency plans remain active.
  • ER Infusion for COVID-19 positive patients on Medicine Unit I continues from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Over the last 2 days, 62 infusions were performed.
  • Non-emergent elective surgeries at NOMC are suspended next week.
  • Today, the Surgical Services schedule includes 12 surgeries at NOMC, 0 at the Surgery Center, 3 Cath Lab cases and 2 Endoscopies.
  • Drive-Thru COVID-19 Testing remains open and 159 tests were performed in the last 2 days.
  • Employee Wellness returned 24 employees back to work since Aug. 11. There are 52 out monitoring symptoms at home (8 RNs; 0 respiratory therapists).
  • Our employee vaccination rate is now 65.5%.
  • REMINDER: Department leaders should send to Jeff Jarreau any employees who would like to receive the vaccine while at work. Please indicate the department, the number of employees and whether they are on the day or night shift. Dr. Peltier has a team who is willing to go to the floor to offer vaccines. Please send by TODAY Friday, Aug. 13.
  • Clinic volume is steady.
  • Diagnostics is busy.
  • Urgent Care remains busy and did 86 first doses and 97 second doses since Aug. 11.
  • We are thrilled that the U.S. Public Health Service Corps is here. Corps team members present include: 3 physicians, 1 nurse practitioner, 1 physician assistant, 7 nurses, 1 safety officer, 1 force protection officer and 1 lieutenant commander team lead.
  • Supplies are good. At least 30 days of everything on hand; some items 60-90 days or more.
  • Our visitor policy remains the same. There are no changes to report.
  • Dr. Peltier reports that the FDA approved the booster shot for a small segment of the population which are immunocompromised patients. We are awaiting the definition and further clarity on immunocompromised patients. You will be informed as soon as we get details.
For Our Team
  • We will offer complimentary breakfast to staff Tues., Aug. 17 and Thurs., Aug. 19 in the cafeteria for the day staff and cookies will be available for the night staff.
  • Thurs., Aug. 19, Johnny, Jeff and Michael will grill and serve hamburgers to the night staff beginning at 10 p.m. Email Jeff if you’d like to help grill or serve.
  • Downtown Yoga will provide complimentary yoga to our team at the ODC Tues., Aug. 17 and Tues., Aug. 24 at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Max allowed is 75. Email Jeff if you’d like to participate. The class will be gentle yoga with relaxation. Mindful breathing will also be taught. It’s a great tool to carry forward in the workplace and at home.

  • Governor Edwards will hold a press conference today at 1:30 p.m.
  • Dr. Justin Fowlkes’ video about vaccination awareness was posted to social media yesterday. Like and share to help us spread the message.
  • AFP news agency will be on site this afternoon interviewing Dr. Fowlkes, MICU nurse Stefanie Gras and the US Public Health Service Corps Public Information Officer.
