Update: April 2, 2020
Updated 11:01 a.m., 4/2/20
- Today is Thursday, April 2, 2020
- LDH Stats: 6,424 COVID-19 cases in 60/64 parishes. 273 deaths. 1,495 COVID-19
positive patients hospitalized, 490 on vents.
- North Oaks Stats: 22 COVID-19 positive cases in-house, with 14 of those
on vents; 24 persons under investigation. We’ve done 713 tests,
with 91 positives; 216 test results are pending. The drive through screening
center did 64 tests yesterday and has 24 on the schedule for today (as
of this morning.)
- Employee Wellness: We have 37 employees self-isolating, 15 of which are
nursing staff.
- Population health did 30 virtual visits yesterday, received 120 calls and
saw 64 patients at the walk-in-clinics.
- Telemedicine through myChart: Testing continues with Dr. Charles Ducombs today.
- Please take care of yourself and each other. Use proper hand-hygiene techniques.
If you are ill, please report to employee wellness at x. 5706. Supervisors,
please inform employee wellness if you send someone home ill.
- We are updating procedures to comply with changes in CDC recommendations
for specimens from droplet condition specific patients. Specimens should
to hand-carried to the lab.
- Amanda reported that head covers and headbands from home are OK, but DO
NOT remove them while at work and lay them on surfaces – that increases
risk of spreading contamination. She recommends laundering daily.
- Supply levels of PPE continue to be good, but please use wisely.
- In anticipation of increasing volume we are moving PACU to the OR holding
area in preparation for standing up the MICU2 unit. The common phone #
for the MICU2 unit is x 2080, and will ring to all phones on the unit.
- Kudos to Team North Oaks for fit testing more than 400 health care workers
who will be supporting operations at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
- Social media rumors abound that North Oaks is full and we are turning away
patients. This is NOT true. In fact, our average daily census is below
average today. We DO have sufficient PPE. Please help correct any misperceptions.
- Please remind weekend staff that the Main Entrance (Signature Building)
will be closed this weekend. They should enter through the Tower Lobby
(6 a.m. .- 8 p.m.) or the ED (24/7) when they arrive for their shift.
- The Employee Emergency Relief Plan is going to be extended to PRN nurses
and respiratory therapists who join North Oaks full time. After six months
those employees will be eligible for the PTO and buy-back benefits. Not
only will we gain permanent North Oaks family members, but we’ll
decrease contract labor expenses. The deadline to apply is 4/30/2020.
- We are in need of nurses and respiratory therapists. Please spread the word.
- Please let Michele or Dr. Rob Peltier know if you have any issues to add
to the agendas of the Region 9, statewide CMO or LHA calls.
- Dr. Peltier also asks that you speak up if you’re receiving inconsistent
messages about standards of care. The situation remains very fluid, and
our goal is to be as consistent as possible. Let him know of any inconsistencies
so we can address them and communicate out.
