At North Oaks, we address the whole patient in their recovery from an amputation, developing personalized, multidisciplinary care plans that cover all phases from wound healing to restoration of their functional strength. Our focus starts with healing the wound, then moves to restoring mobility, stability, functional strength and addressing the psychological impact of limb loss.
The inpatient setting is critical for recovering from the amputation site wound. Our 24-hour medical team is committed to providing comprehensive care during this very challenging period in a patient’s life, including proper medication, wound care and nutrition to prepare patients for the next phase.
Adjusting to a prosthetic requires intensive therapy and dedicated focus. Patients have access to our extensive rehabilitation floor and a team of highly experienced physical and occupational therapists. We guide each patient through the prosthetic-fitting process to regain mobility, step by step, as they rebuild strength, stability and endurance.
We recognize that each patient uniquely experiences an array of emotions following an amputation. Our care includes identifying and addressing the grief associated with limb loss. While the body heals, we also provide support for emotional recovery and mental well-being.
North Oaks also offers free support groups for individuals recovering from amputations, extending our care beyond the hospital stay. These groups are open to patients, their families and friends, underscoring our commitment to long-term recovery and support.
