Ultrasounds are noninvasive imaging procedures that involve no exposure to radiation. They use sound waves to capture images that examine organs and structures inside the body. These tests can be performed to find abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, breast, arteries and veins. In addition, ultrasounds excel at monitoring pregnancy and fetal development. They produce images of soft tissue and internal organs to diagnose causes of swelling, infection and pain.
Results are shared with your provider typically within 24 hours of your visit. Studies are read by a board-certified radiologist. Your results also are available to your medical provider in a CD format upon request.
