Albany Native Kayla Burkhardt, MD, Joins Magnolia Obstetrics & Gynecology Clinic

Effective Aug. 26, Obstetrician/Gynecologist and Hammond native Kayla Burkhardt, MD, will join Magnolia Obstetrics & Gynecology Clinic, a department of North Oaks Medical Center. To schedule a new patient appointment with Dr. Burkhardt, please call 985-230-2778.

Dr. Burkhardt comes to North Oaks from LSU Health in Shreveport, where she was a practicing physician and clinical assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Her husband, Edward “EJ” Burkhardt, MD, will also be joining the North Oaks medical staff in August as a neurosurgeon.

“I am excited to be coming home to Hammond and look forward to developing lasting relationships with my patients. Compassion and understanding are at the heart of my patient care philosophy,” Dr. Burkhardt, who is originally from Albany, shares. “I believe it’s important to consider the whole picture to guarantee tailored care and consideration for every patient, taking into account their unique life journeys, backgrounds and health necessities.”

Dr. Burkhardt is highly trained in minimally invasive robotic surgical procedures and specializes in managing high-risk and complex pregnancies.

“I was drawn to obstetrics and gynecology because I find immense fulfillment in being part of the journey that brings new life into the world. Each day, I have the privilege of seeing the joy and happiness that comes with helping families welcome their new additions,” Dr. Burkhardt asserts. “I find the experience incredibly rewarding, and it motivates me to provide the best care possible for my patients.”

Dr. Burkhardt obtained her medical degree from the LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, where she also fulfilled her internship and residency. She acquired a master’s degree in medical sciences from Mississippi College in Clinton and a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. During her time at Southeastern, she worked in the Operating Room department at North Oaks Medical Center.

Professionally, Dr. Burkhardt belongs to the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, American Medical Association and the Louisiana State Medical Society.

The Magnolia Obstetrics & Gynecology team of physicians, women’s health nurse practitioners and certified nurse midwives collaborate in the care of women of all ages and in all stages of life – from adolescence to adulthood. The providers specialize in preventive care, interventions for conditions including, but not limited to, endometriosis and fibroids, maternity care, and treatment plans for osteoporosis and menopause.
