“I am specifically drawn to the epilepsy field because it combines three things that I find very intriguing – our body’s nervous system, physics and technology. There are still many ‘unknowns’ when it comes to epilepsy, and I’m passionate about advancing research to improve care for those living with this debilitating condition,” shares Murr. “My purpose is to help people improve their quality of life, and I look forward to it every day.”
He also is skilled in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of a wide variety of disorders that affect the nervous system, including: headaches, stroke, movement disorders and tremors, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.
Highly regarded in research and education relevant to epilepsy, Murr is fluent in English, French and Arabic and has served on the editorial boards and as a reviewer for multiple peer review journals, including Neurology and Neuroscience Journal and Neurology, Neuroscience Research Journal and International Neuropsychiatric Disease Journal. Since 2016, he has been editor in chief of the Neurology/Epilepsy section of StatPearls Publishing, the largest library of medical education in the world. A sought-after subject matter expert and presenter, Murr was notably an organizing committee member and speaker at the second International Conference on Neurology and Brain Disorders held in Rome in 2018.
Professionally, Murr belongs to the American Academy of Neurology, American Epilepsy Society, Association of University Professors of Neurology, Consortium of Neurology Program Directors and the Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology Sections of the American Academy of Neurology. In addition, he served as the American Academy of Neurology representative for the Epilepsy Foundation’s National Epilepsy and Awareness Collaborative Community of Practice Steering Committee from 2017-2019.
Murr earned a medical degree from the Lebanese University School of Medicine in Beirut, Lebanon. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine through Kansas University School of Medicine in Wichita and a residency in Neurology through the University of Nebraska Medical Center-Creighton University in Omaha. He served as chief resident in his final year and was honored as “Resident of the Year.” Murr went on to complete a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology/Epilepsy through Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
