“I am excited to be coming home to Hammond to offer patient-centered care to the women of our region, while also giving back to the community that helped shape me,” Dr. DePaula-Cox shares. “As a woman and mother, I consider it an honor to advocate for my patients’ health through shared decision making that supports a fulfilling life.”
A junior fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. DePaula-Cox is highly trained in minimally invasive interventions, such as laparoscopy. She also specializes in adolescent gynecology, menopause and high-risk obstetrics.
“Having had a high-risk pregnancy myself, I am in a unique position to empathize with my obstetrical patients and help them through their pregnancies,” Dr. DePaula-Cox notes.
She completed both an internship and residency through the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans. In her first year of internship, she received the Intern Teaching Award. While in residency, she served as a guest contributor for Geauxgirl! Magazine for Teen Girls for the publication’s summer/fall issue in 2020. Also of note, she earned the People’s Choice Award at LSUHSC’s 2020 Quality Improvement Forum for her presentation and research regarding the reduction of opioid prescriptions, which she also presented at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist’s Annual Clinical and Scientific Meeting that same year.
Dr. DePaula-Cox earned her medical degree through the LSUHSC’s School of Medicine in New Orleans after graduating with the highest distinction of summa cum laude from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and dual minors in Chemistry and History. While a student at Southeastern, she worked at North Oaks Medical Center for one year as an electrocardiogram monitor technician.
Passionate about community outreach, Dr. DePaula-Cox has volunteered with numerous organizations, including: Habitat for Humanity; Camp Tiger for children with special needs; and the SMILE outreach program for children with chronic medical conditions. She also helped provide health care screenings to Tibetan nuns and monks on a medical mission trip to Northern India in 2015.
