Certified Patient Access Associate Rena Honored as Employee of the Month

Certified Patient Access Associate Rena has received North Oaks Health System's Employee of the Month Award for March 2020.

Rena joined North Oaks as Patient Access Associate in 2016. She became a Certified Patient Access Associate in 2019. In this role, she is responsible for registering patients for surgery, diagnostic tests and other services. She also works as a PBX Operator on an as needed basis.

“I like being able to cheer others up when they are having a bad day or dealing with matters of the heart,” share Rena.

Rena studied her favorite pastime of travel and tourism at Spencer College in Baton Rouge.

“I would cruise every 6 months if I could,” shares Rena.

The oldest of five siblings, Rena lives in her hometown of Hammond. She was raised by her grandparents, whom she credits for instilling in her the importance of giving back and treating everyone like family.

“I live by the ‘golden rule,’ treat others as you want to be treated,” Rena explains.

Rena has one daughter, Ciera, who is 26-years-old. Ciera has been a U.S. Army Reservist since 2012 and was first deployed in 2015. She will deploy for her second tour of duty in July 2020.

“Rena has a gift for establishing rapport with others," affirms Patient Access Manager Trish Basco. "She has a calmness about her that makes others feel safe in her presence. She also has an amazing sense of humor, which she often utilizes to lighten the mood for her patients when they are most vulnerable. Her patients and coworkers often share with us how much her kindness, thoughtfulness and comfort mean to them.”
