General Surgery Unit Staff Registered Nurse Tina has received the North Oaks Health System Nurse Excellence Award for June 2018.
"I love caring for others in their time of need," shares Tina.
Tina entered the North Oaks Nurses Residency Program in January 2016. Following residency, she accepted a Staff Registered Nurse position on the General Surgery Unit in April 2016. She began mentoring new nurses as a Preceptor and assisting as a Relief Charge Nurse in 2017. She also serves on the Nursing Shared Governance Professional Development Council.
Born in Galliano, Tina earned an associate degree in Nursing through Louisiana Delta Community College in Monroe.
She lives in Denham Springs with her husband Felix, who is an Internal Medicine physician with North Oaks Primary Care Clinic in Livingston. They attend Walker Baptist Church.
Away from work, Tina and Felix enjoy cooking outdoors and entertaining friends and family, including her two adult children and fellow Registered Nurses, Rae and Ross, and four grandchildren – James, 7; Justin, 6; Evie, 5; and Julia, 3. Rae also works at North Oaks in the Emergency Room.
“Tina is gifted at making personal connections with her patients," affirms Post-operative Director Jackie Carr. "They often ask if she’ll be ‘back tomorrow’ to care for them.”
