Medicine Unit Staff LPN Rustin has been honored with the North Oaks Health System Nurse Excellence Award.
"Helping you transition to the next stage of treatment, gain the tools to stay healthy and cope when you feel you can't--that's why I went into Nursing,” Rustin shares.
In 2007, Rustin joined North Oaks as a Pharmacy Tech. After earning a diploma in Licensed Practical Nursing from Louisiana Technical College in Hammond, he worked as a Telemetry Unit Staff Nurse from 2009-2010. From there, he went to work at the Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge and returned to North Oaks in 2014 as a Medicine Unit Staff Nurse.
A native of Franklinton and resident of Hammond, Rustin enjoys traveling to explore new cities with his fiancé Josh, who is a graduate of the North Oaks School of Radiologic Technology.
Rustin is fluent in American Sign Language and is currently writing a book about his experiences with loss and grief.
"Rustin quickly develops a rapport with his patients and their family members, forming a lasting impression. When we make follow-up phone calls to our patients after their hospital stay to see how they are doing, they frequently mention Rustin as someone who went above and beyond to make their experience exceptional no matter how difficult their circumstances," affirms Medicine Unit Clinical Nurse Manager Shana Hernandez.
