Sleep Disorders
Snoring, insomnia, sleep apnea and restless legs are all examples of sleep
disorders. If you suffer from any of these or have sleep problems that
are interfering with your daily life, let us help you get the rest you need.
North Oaks Sleep Disorders Center
North Oaks Sleep Disorders Center provides clinical services and treatments
for patients who may have symptoms of a sleep disorder. The center is
accredited by the
American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Sleep Studies
To determine if you have a sleep disorder, you may need a sleep study,
or polysomnogram, which measures your bodily functions during sleep. Sleep
studies are designed to diagnose, assess and determine treatment options
for sleep disorders.
There are two types of sleep studies:
-
In-lab overnight sleep study: Each of the sleep disorders center’s four soundproof, hotel-style
bedrooms has an adjustable, queen-sized bed, recliner and a private, full
bathroom. Each patient’s bedroom is furnished with a television,
ceiling fan, night lights and a thermostat so you can control the room’s
temperature. Depending upon treatment recommendations, some patients may
need to stay an extra day for a multiple sleep latency test, which assesses
any excessive daytime sleepiness by measuring how fast you fall asleep
during the day.
-
Home sleep test: If you have high risk factors for obstructive sleep apnea and no other
medical disorders, you might be able to have a sleep study in the comfort
of your home. Your sleep technologist will show you how to hook up the
testing device. Once you are finished, you will return the device to the
sleep disorders center the following morning.
